What about the label? You do realize there are multiple forms of corona viruses that infect humans right? (some colds, SARS, MERS... all corona virus infections)
The first ones were discovered in the 70s or something, can't remember exactly.

Which is why this one was initially referred to as NOVEL corona virus. It's a new version.

As the only goal of a disenfectant is to destroy the folding structure of the hull proteins to inactivate the virus, 70%/96% EtOH will do the job just fine. Soap already inactivates a lot of virus particles and if you're really desperate you can even wash your hands with vinegar which also changes the charges of the proteins due to its acidity and deactivates the virus. Seriously, I think a lot of it is hot state panic marketing.

Edit: Of course your skin has the potential to look like shit if you're going for grandpa's moonshine or vinegar

I really don't think that using hand gels and shit will prevent you of getting Corona tbh. And to be fair, I really can't be bothered. Just give me the Corona

I'm not worried about catching the virus in the slightest, I'd be more worried about spreading it to other people who won't fare as well if they get it, I have a lot of elderly relatives including my 99 year old great-grandmother.

Fortunately I'm already self-isolating, viruses or not.

What I really see as a problem is the mass hysteria around some small Covi-bois. I mean we should really treat this issue very seriously by just ensuring heightened and more conscious hygiene standards and simply not being assholes. I mean don't sneeze, cough or spit into other people's faces and don't touch everything in plain sight just for the sake of doing so.

Also what really annoys me is people being total assholes buying stuff in bulk they do not need, like surgical masks, while hospitals are currently struggling to get enough supplies. A friend who's a doctor just told me that they have to use the same surgical masks several times. Situations like this just puts people who really need the medical safety at risk, while some idiots did a badly informed panic reaction bulk purchase of those goods, because some other badly informed idiot in some idiotic media hit piece stated to do so. If it gets out of hand, the hysteria around it could increase the mortality of some certain groups of vulnearable people substantially and be actually worse than the virus itself.

Supplies got bought up already during the outbreak in China, especially anything on the internet was bought up and resold to the Chinese at premium prices.
I don't have shit and I'm not going to buy anything either.

about the hand gels.. anything with more than 65 % ethanol will kill viruses
About the masks.. the surgical mask don't really help. If you want to be on the safe side use a fffp2 mask or even a ffp3 mask

My guess is, the infection number is just way higher but the Italians miss so many that it looks really bad. And indeed from what I know the medical system in Italy is fairly total shit.

The affected area is situated in northern area which is as advanced, from a medical pov, but also from any other criteria, as any other big western country. The south of Italy is a lot more worse from a civilization pov, but that area is not affected by the corona.
I would suspect 2 things that cause the higher mortality rate:
1. Italy has an aging population, hence more older people get sick, so higher mortality.
2. Some genetic factor that makes Italians more sensible to the virus.
Off course I could be wrong and there's another reason for the mortality rate.
